The Rogue, as well as nine other small SUVs, was evaluated for front, side and rear crash protection. The Top Safety Pick award recognizes vehicles that provide superior overall crash protection among vehicles in their class and only includes vehicles with available electronic stability control, the Rogue comes standard with Nissan’s electronic stability control system, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC)
About the safety features of the Nissan Rogue:
The 2008 Nissan Rogue offers a full complement of standard safety features, including vehicle dynamic control with a traction control system, multiple standard air bags, featuring the Nissan Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt sensors and an occupant classification sensor, roof-mounted curtain supplemental side-impact air bags for front-and rear-seat occupant head protection, along with a standard Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) and driver/passenger seat belt warning lamps. Also standard are front seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) child seat anchors and tether system, front seats with active head restraints and Zone Body Construction with front and rear crumple zones to help dissipate crash energy away from the passenger compartment.

Environmental responsibility has factored into Nissan products and plans for decades, from its fuel-sipping vehicles in the 1970s, through industry-leading accomplishments in electric vehicle technology in the 1990s, to today’s unprecedented hands-on consumer testing of intelligent highway systems.
The focus on the environment is evident in immediate and long-range initiatives. Most recently, Nissan President and CEO Carlos Ghosn committed the Renault-Nissan Alliance to becoming a global leader in zero-emission vehicles (ZEV). Nissan will introduce ZEVs in the U.S. in 2010 and two years later will mass-market ZEVs globally.
As a part of this effort, Nissan has formed a partnership with the State of Tennessee to promote zero-emission vehicles, including electric vehicles, in Middle Tennessee with participation from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and other partners. The Renault-Nissan Alliance also has begun ZEV initiatives in Israel, Denmark, and Portugal.
“Through the Tennessee project, consumers will soon be able to drive vehicles that deliver true sustainable mobility,” Ghosn said. “The state, along with other partners, is to be commended for stepping up to meet the challenge of creating the conditions to make zero-emission vehicles a viable and compelling choice for consumers.”
Nissan is also working with New York City to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by expanding the use of hybrid vehicles as taxicabs. About 40 Altima Hybrids are currently in service as medallion taxis in New York. In addition, Nissan has committed to making available to the city up to 200 Altima Hybrids per month.
These efforts are examples of Nissan’s long-range commitment, with plans stretching out to the year 2050. Nissan breaks the work down into mid-range goals called Green Programs.
Nissan Green Programs
Since 2002, Nissan Green Programs have presented the corporation’s global commitment to cleaner, greener transportation as a series of specific and challenging 3-year goals. For example, by the close of Green Program 2005, Nissan:
Reached its goal for 80% sales of Ultra-Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs) in the domestic Japanese market.
Achieved a recoverability rate of 95% on new Japanese models (a measurement of the potential to reuse or recycle vehicle components).
Became the first Japanese manufacturer program to certify Japanese dealers in environmentally friendly practices through the Nissan Green Shop Program.
Nissan Green Program 2010 builds on this success, focusing on three specific goals to be achieved by 2010:
The highest priority is to minimize emissions — from vehicles and other corporate sources — of carbon dioxide (CO2), which many scientists believe contribute to global warming.
Nissan will continue to reduce emissions of other regulated substances to meet or beat regional standards.
Nissan is working toward 100% resource recovery throughout the design, manufacturing, and usage cycle of their vehicles.
Nissan believes meeting these challenging and aggressive goals will help it continue to provide customers with innovative products that lead to a cleaner automotive society.
